Automation Testing Definitions

Automation testing

Writing software program for testing other software program is called Automation testing.

Why

When we have lot of regression work.
When we have tight schedule for release

Benefit

Faster Regression (Increate test execution)
Improve accuracy
It Can run overnight (Manual Interaction not needed)
Increase test Coverage
Cycle of testing can be increased
Increases testing efficiency

False benefit

No Manual Testing needed
Testing cost will be reduced
It will save time and cost

Cons:

It needs investment
Need programming skill to implement

What to Automate

Test case which needed to regressed multiple times
Test case tough to execute manually
Test case which take long time to execute
Test which need
Test cases that need multiple data input

What not to automate

Frequently changing test cases
New feature
Ad –hoc test cases
UI is not fixed
Test does not required for long run
Feature which are not stable

Risk

Not having skilled resource
Test Tool not supporting all environments
UI is changing frequently

Best test tool for me:

Tool which support my environment
Tool which easy to learn
Tool which have better support and online resource
Tool which is cost –effective for my organization
Support different type of testing
Error recovery
Good reporting
Recognize object in all environment
Tool which support most of my requirements

Why Need Frame work for Automation Testing

For creating better structure for Test
Maintain consistency of Testing
Re-usability of code
Less Maintenance of code
Making test execution simple (For non-technical users)
Easy to understand code
Better reporting

Popular Test Automation framework

Data Driven Automation Framework
Keyword Driven Automation Framework
